47th ANNUAL MEETING
Borders, Barriers, and Belonging:
Cultural Psychiatry & Global Mental Health
in a Time of Displacement and Division
The SSPC Annual Meeting brings together scholars, clinicians, and community leaders to share knowledge, exchange ideas, and foster collaborations that address the complex challenges of mental health in diverse cultural contexts, with the goal of emphasizing reciprocal learning across borders, communities, and disciplines.
Why This Meeting Matters Now
The 2026 Annual Meeting focuses on how borders (geographic, social, institutional, and psychological) shape mental health experiences and access to care. Across plenaries, symposia, and workshops, participants will explore how displacement, identity, culture, and power intersect in clinical practice, research, and policy.
This is a space for critical reflection, skill-building, and interdisciplinary dialogue designed to be as relevant to early-career professionals and trainees as it is to senior scholars and clinicians.
Highlights from the Program:
Plenary sessions addressing displacement, belonging, and culturally grounded approaches to care in divided societies
Thematic symposia examining migration, community-based mental health, moral injury, faith and meaning, structural violence, and culturally responsive clinical models
Interactive workshops offering practical tools for:
Working clinically with refugees, asylum seekers, and immigrant communities
Understanding trauma across cultural and developmental contexts
Navigating ethics, advocacy, and interdisciplinary collaboration
Integrating culture, narrative, and lived experience into assessment and care
Sessions are designed to support both conceptual depth and real-world application.
